While it is difficult to search for a good job, ultimately it all depends on your approach.

Applying for a job is selling yourself to a potential employer. You should be able to answer why they should pick you over other applicants. You should be able to put yourself above the rest.

Take time to make a great CV and cover letter. With your CV and cover letter, you are introducing yourself to your potential employer and hopefully you can greatly impress them with it. If it fails, don’t let it bring you down too much. Take the rejection and move on.

Below are some useful approaches to job hunting.

LInkedin is one social media site you should join. Employers consider those who are part of LinkedIn. Join discussion groups for the industries you are interested in and start building your social network to keep updated for the latest job offers. You can also get noticed by following great companies that you like and commenting on their posts. Ensure that the comments that your posts are just professional ones.

When their trusted employees recommend someone for a job, most companies hire these people. If you want to work for a certain company and you have a friend or family member working there, then you can ask them for job openings. You will know about vacancies firsthand and if you are recommended by your friend and family, then you have an advantage over your competitors.

Don’t just stick to job listings. Don’t focus on vacancies but rather on companies. Your interest in the company will show in what you say when you apply for a job there. But you don’t completely reject job listings. You can send a CV and cover letter to a company that has openings even if the role is not suitable for you. You will never know when that company will be needing people with your skills. So show them what you have got with your CV and cover letter.

You can also look for unfamiliar jobs that are available but you need to research on this and perhaps you will be interested to try them out. This less traditional career path will have less competition but it will give you more opportunities to expand your horizons.

The way you handle the application process will give potential employers an idea of what kind of worker you are. It is good to know more about the company through research before applying for a job. You can benefit from understanding the company and what they do.
